go green with packtoozi

Go Green with PacktooziSometimes it's hard to be green when you are a busy mom or dad.  Let's face it—the 6,000 or so diapers that the average baby goes through in its diapering career don’t do wonders for the environment. And that's just one baby! And an awful lot of . . . waste. . . going into the ground.

As busy people ourselves, we admit it, not every can goes into the recycling bin.   We understand that not everyone is going to opt for the cloth diaper route, and the thought of throwing your rotten strawberries in the compost bin for worms to feed on may be enough to put you over the edge.  However, our belief is that even small changes, if undertaken by enough people, can have a big impact on the environment. This is what we have tried to do personally and with Packtoozi.

Packtoozi products are designed to reduce waste.

We created the Packtoozi Packs to be an environmentally friendly (and of course much more attractive) alternative to disposable plastic bags.  By using the reusable Packtoozi Packs for corraling your stuff instead of throwaway bags, together we can reduce the number of plastic bags that end up in landfills and rivers.  That’s a huge feat too considering it can take up to 1000 years for the plastic to break down!

The Packtoozi Headquarters also offers environmental benefits.  Extra trips to the store are minimized by having a handy place to stock your “surplus” on the go necessities (i.e. wipes, bibs, creams, etc.).  You no longer need to buy the anti-bacterial gel or wipes piecemeal, and since you can easily view your inventory, you don’t have to worry about last minute surprises: “I thought we had . . .!”  You know when you are running low, and so you just calmly add items to your Pack to Shop list for the next scheduled shopping trip.  Taking fewer trips to the store will not only reduce emissions from your car, but your gasoline bills too!

Packtoozi uses environmentally friendly raw materials when possible, and where we haven’t yet found an acceptable eco-conscious alternative, we continue to seek one.

100% organic cotton is the primary material used in most Packtoozi products.  We don’t want our kids or yours unnecessarily touching fabrics that have been treated with loads of chemicals and pesticides.  Did you know that residual chemicals left on conventionally grown and dyed cotton fabric can be irritating to sensitive skin?  Or that conventionally grown cotton uses more chemicals per unit area than any other crop, accounting for 16% of the world's pesticide use?  These chemicals are major air and water pollutants.  The more we learn, the more convinced we are about the use of organic cotton.  We believe it’s the right thing to use for us, our environment and our customers.

We do not use PVC vinyl.

There are countless reports and articles detailing the environmental and potential health risks associated with using poly-vinyl chloride, a.k.a. PVC. Look around and you'll be amazed by how many products today contain the stuff. We have chosen to use recyclable mesh in place of PVC and are proud of that.

We try not to let any materials go to waste.

When we design accessory products (like bibs, changing pads, etc.) to compliment the Packtoozi System, we use our own organic cotton scrap materials.  Rest assured, we reduce waste!

Packtoozi is committed to using minimal packaging.

We don’t want unnecessary product packaging to end up in the landfills.  Where paper is used, it is post-consumer and printed with soy based inks.

Children and the Environment

There are many things that children can do to help the environment, and the sooner we start to educate our young folks, the better habits they will form, and the more likely we'll all be to preserve the environment for the next generation. One of the best sites we have come across that makes learning about the environment fun for kids is from the EPA, the Environmental Kids Club, http://www.epa.gov/kids. Also, a book we love is 50 Simple Things Kids can Do to Save the Earth (paperbakc) by LLC Andrews McMeel Publishing (author), The EarthWorks Group (Author).
