pack of tips

Welcome to our Pack of Tips! Here’s where you’ll find invaluable ideas and suggestions for life on the go with kids. We’ve compiled these tips from parents who have been there and done that.

We hope you will add some of your own.

EAT:

Pre-pack snacks in small, reusable containers to keep in your Headquarters so when you are in a rush, you can just grab and go. Reusable containers are a great alternative to disposable plastic baggies or individually size snack bags.

When dining out, many parents find it helpful to order for their kids immediately. After all, the only thing worse than being at a restaurant with a tired 2 year old, is being at a restaurant with a hungry and tired 2 year old.

Organic freeze-dried fruits and vegetables are a handy and tasty snack that most kids seem to like and bonus. . . they get nutrients at the same time.

It’s not a bad idea to regularly review how you would handle a choking emergency. Would you know what to do?

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) latest study says that women do not need to avoid eating any potential allergens (like peanuts) during breastfeeding (but of course, check with your own doctor).

POTTY:

Have wipes, a fresh diaper and a change of clothes out (basically have your Packto Potty open and ready to go) and within reach before opening a dirty diaper.

It can be helpful to keep some sort of reward in your potty pack (we use jelly beans) for when your child is potty-training. That way, even when you’re outside the house, you can remain consistent with your potty training practices.

With a child who is newly potty-trained, you will want to have 1 or 2 extra pair of undies on hand, so if an accident happens, you can do a quick change and go on your merry way. Otherwise, you’ll probably be heading home or to the closest store and wasting money on an unneeded replacement outfit.

Some parents find it helpful to keep a portable potty in the trunk of their cars for those potty emergencies.

To minimize sock turnover, take off socks before removing a poopy diaper.

PLAY:

Bring a small inflatable ball in your play pack. It will provide hours of entertainment for those impromptu trips to the park and doesn’t take up any space.

You’d be amazed how fun a simple scarf or handkerchief can be. It’s great for peekaboo with babies and with older kids you can play all sorts of tricks or just be silly with this basic piece.

When you go to one of those restaurants where they are kind enough to give you crayons and paper. . . don’t just leave them on the table when you leave. Crayons are an invaluable component of any Pack to Play and you can never have too many. Reusing the crayons vs. having the restaurant throw them away is also clearly better for the environment

Formal toys are not always necessary. It’s sometimes fun to try to create your own games from what’s around you. For instance, at a park, who can find the most leaves of a particular shape or color? For a younger child, it’s amazing the tricks and music you can make with utensils at a restaurant.

The wonders of simple pipe cleaners are endless. First, they don’t take up any space in your Packto Play pack and second you can use them to teach shapes, create free form pieces ,animals, whatever.

A - Z:

Keep a sun hat packed away in the AtoZ Pack for the warm weather months and for the winter an extra pair of mittens can come in handy.

The AtoZ Pack can also be a handy place to keep all your parent paraphenelia from lip balm to your keys or your cell-phone.

The A to Z Pack is an ideal place to keep a mini first aid kit. Stock as you see fit—though our suggestions would include: band-aids, alcohol swabs, pain reliever, and tweezers.

Some people like to store their kids’ swim diapers in the A to Z row of their Headquarters. After all, it’s handy, not that many come in a package, and since it is a seasonal item many people won’t have another usual spot for this. As your children get older, they can get them out themselves before you head to the pool.

Next time you are at your favorite hotel relaxing (with or without the kiddies), don’t just leave the sewing kit on the bathroom counter. Take it. You never know when it’ll come in handy (by the way, they almost always include safety pins in those kits and how many times have you wished you just had one of those handy).
